The purpose of the Belonging Group is to start a discussion about the issue of belonging which is on people's minds in an increasingly globalized world. Travel, immigration, and multiple cultural influences through media and commerce in our daily lives have heightened dramatically in intensity in a relatively short period of history. We have ourselves become a testament to our globalized world with parents of differing nationalities and birth places which might be different to our parent's birth places. These developments have expanded our horizons about where we can live in the world yet at the same time highlight our basic human need to know and have the sense that we can live where we belong. Why do we deteriorate and sometimes even become self-destructive if we feel that we lack this, even if the place where we live is perfectly comfortable and welcoming? Discuss this and many other issues to do with belonging in this unique group.
